25+ Powerful Prayers For Good Weather

Most of us have checked the forecast with a knot in our stomachs. Maybe it was the week of a wedding, a family reunion planned for months, a long road trip, or the stretch of dry days a farmer needs to bring in a harvest. We can plan nearly everything about a day except the sky above it. That quiet helplessness is one reason people have prayed about the weather for as long as there have been people.

Scripture treats weather as something that belongs to God. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus stood up in a storm-tossed boat and calmed the wind and waves with a word. In the Old Testament, Elijah prayed earnestly and the long drought broke. And Jesus reminded us that the Father sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous alike, a sign that weather is not a scoreboard of God’s favor. So we can ask for sunshine, rain, and calm, while also trusting His wisdom when the answer is not what we hoped. Psalm 121:7–8 promises His watchful care over our coming and going, and Deuteronomy 28:12 speaks of God opening the heavens to send rain in its season.

This article offers 25+ powerful prayers for good weather, organized into six categories: daily sunshine and peace, outdoor events and celebrations, safe travel, farmers and harvest, storms and natural disasters, and bonus prayers of gratitude and trust. Each prayer is paired with a Bible verse to ground your request in Scripture. As you pray, remember that one person’s sunny wedding day may be another person’s drought, so these prayers invite both hope and humility. By the end, you will have simple words to pray before an event, a journey, or a storm.

Praying Wisely About the Weather

Praying for the weather is most meaningful when it is paired with gratitude, wisdom, and care for others. Here are some ways to use these 25+ powerful prayers for good weather well:

Pray specifically. Name the event, trip, or need, whether a wedding, a flight, a family gathering, or a field of crops.

Make a backup plan. Rent a tent, choose an indoor option, or leave room in your schedule. Preparing is a form of wisdom that works alongside prayer.

Remember others. Someone else may be praying for the very rain you hope will hold off. Ask God for good outcomes while caring about neighbors, farmers, and communities.

Say thank you for any weather. Gratitude for rain and for sunshine keeps your heart soft when the forecast does not go your way.

Take warnings seriously. In severe weather, follow official alerts, evacuation orders, and safety guidance. Prayer and wise action belong together, and God often protects us through sensible choices.

Pray for those affected. After storms, floods, fires, or drought, pray for communities in need and consider helping through a local relief effort.

Take a moment to reflect: what in your life depends on the sky right now, and what would it look like to bring that to God with open hands? Choose one of these prayers to pray before your next event or trip, and notice how it shapes your response to the day.
